How many green turtles left?

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2021, the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) is found in various areas of the world's oceans and is listed as "Endangered" on their Red List. The IUCN estimates the global population of green sea turtles to be "significantly depleted but not critically endangered," and their numbers are decreasing. However, the IUCN provides a broad range for their population size, from 850,000 to 1,500,000 mature individuals globally.

Factors contributing to their threatened status include habitat loss, hunting and poaching for their meat and shells, bycatch in fishing gear, and marine pollution. Conservation efforts are ongoing in many regions to protect nesting sites and reduce human-caused threats to the species.
