Instructions
Feed your pet python according to its age and weight. Feed young pythons once or twice a week and adults once every two weeks.
Make sure you never feed your pet python food that is larger than the widest part of its body.
Provide your python with mice, rats and rabbits. Chickens are not recommended because there is danger of salmonella poisoning.
Keep your pet python in its enclosure when you feed it. It cannot differentiate between the food and you. Many people have been attacked by their pets because they had no protection between themselves and the python.
Kill the prey before putting it in the python's cage, since live animals can hurt the snake. To attract the python's attention you may want to dangle it in front of the snake and trick it into thinking the prey is live.
Leave your pet python alone if it stops feeding for a month or two, after checking to make sure it is not ill. Burmese pythons go through fasting periods approximately twice a year and there is nothing to worry about as long as your snake is healthy.
