Can platypus venom kill a human?

While the venom of the platypus is painful and can cause localized swelling and tissue damage, the amount injected is insufficient to be lethal to humans. The toxins present in platypus venom, such as defensins and nerve growth factors, have been found to affect mammalian species other than humans, leading to speculations about their potency in some animals. However, human deaths attributed solely to platypus venom have not been documented.
