How to Feed Earthworms to a Pet

Earthworms are a natural food source for many animals and pets. Worms are available for purchase but they may also be collected from the ground. Feeding the worms to reptiles, birds and fish is a simple process that requires very little concentration. The animals typically enjoy eating the earthworms and watching them devour the meal can be fun. Worms are also an ideal food source because they are easy to preserve in the home.

Instructions

    • 1

Store the worms in a dirt-filled container in a shaded, cool area to increase the life span. Store worms in a refrigerator if other options are not available.

    • 2

Wash the dirt from the worm with water and place it into a small dish.

    • 3

Bury the worms in a dirt cage for reptiles and birds. Many birds and reptiles prefer to forage for their food. Do not bury an excessive number of worms in a warm environment as they will spoil quickly.

    • 4

Use your hands or a sharp knife to divide the worms into small sections for fish aquariums and small birds. Cut the worm in half or in thirds for small birds and fish. Use larger chunks for a single fish and increase the number of chunks to accommodate larger populations.
