How to Use Cage Liners in an Aquarium

An aquarium is a common choice of housing for small pets such as hamsters, mice and gerbils because your pet can't burrow or chew its way out of it and can't dig bedding and wood shavings out of the enclosure and onto your floor. Using a cage liner in an aquarium can help during cleaning out the enclosure because you can just lift out the cage liner with the soiled bedding inside and throw the bedding away.

Things You'll Need

  • Wood shavings or other bedding

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any old bedding from the aquarium, so that you will be able to place the cage liner in the aquarium.

    • 2

Wipe clean your pet's aquarium using a cloth or paper towel and spray it with pet cage sanitizer spray.

    • 3

Put the cage liner into the bottom of the aquarium. You can choose between disposable cage liners, which will be thrown away each time you clean out the cage, and reusable cage liners, which are usually made from a fleece material and will need to be washed and dried and reused.

Cover the cage liner with wood shavings or another bedding of your choice. This will make the cage more comfortable for your pet.
