How to Keep Ants From Escaping in AntWorks

Educational and fun, keeping an ant farm is a low-maintenance hobby. The AntWorks space age habitat is different than the average ant enclosure in that the ants are not kept in dirt, but rather in a gel that is filled with nutrients that the ants need. The ants are enclosed in the habitat and should be unable to escape. A few ants might manage to get out no matter how good their enclosure is. You can make a type of "invisible fence" around the enclosure to keep the ants from getting away.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your ant house on top of a table that is one foot larger than the ant house on each side. Place a protective cloth on the table so the products that make the invisible fence won't harm the table top.

    • 2

Place vegetable oil, soap, cologne, hand cream or anything that has a scent on the table completely around the base of the enclosure. The scents from the chemicals will keep the ants in their enclosure. If the ants come out, they will not pass over the products and will go back into the enclosure.

Reapply the product every day so the scent is fresh. Apply it thickly with no breaks in the line of product.
