How to Take Care of an Ant Farm

Ants are fascinating creatures that are fun to watch. They are industrious insects that also like to play games, eat, drink and be merry. Similar to humans, ants have different levels of intelligence. They can teach us a thing or two about teamwork and getting along with one another. It’s for all these reasons that people build ant farms and devote much of their time to observing them. Feed your ants what they like to eat. Aren’t you happy when you’re eating your favorite foods? Ants have favorite foods too, and they will be happy if you give them foods such as fruit, birdseed or the white part of a hard-boiled egg. Chopped meat is another food your ants will feast on, and so are lettuce leaves. When feeding your ants, be sure to give them very small amounts of food. A crumb the size of an ant’s head is more than enough. If you’d rather feed your ants food made just for them, you can order ant food online.

Give your ants fresh water daily. They also like honey water, which should be limited to one time a week.

    • 3

Make sure your ants aren’t too hot or too cold. They don’t like too much sun or cold weather.

    • 4

Make sure you keep your ant farm covered with a screen at all times so your ants don’t crawl out of their dwelling place.

    • 5

Release winged ants, if a lot of them appear all of a sudden in your ant farm. Release them into the environment to avoid overcrowding and to allow them to reproduce elsewhere.
