How to Make a C&C Cage

Healthy guinea pigs require more space than most commercial cages provide. Cube and cloroplast (C&C) cages are easy to make and inexpensive. In addition to providing your guinea pigs with more room to roam, C&C cages come with an added benefit: You can choose the shape of the cage and make it fit conveniently into your home. The cages can be built long and thin or even to wrap around a corner.

Instructions

    • 1

Snap the plastic grids together with a connector placed at both the top and bottom of the grids. Use as many grids as you think will be needed for the cage, but don't fret if you overestimate or underestimate; it's quick and easy to snap on more plastic grids or remove a few.

    • 2

Arrange the grid wall in the desired shape of the cage.

    • 3

Slide the cloroplast underneath the plastic grids.

    • 4

Draw a border on the cloroplast 6 inches larger than the grid enclosure. Cut off any excess clorosplast outside the border.

    • 5

Cut off the corners of the cloroplast and score the sides along the grids. Bend the sides of the cloroplast up and tuck them on the inside of the plastic grids. Tape any loose corners of the cloroplast to complete the cage.
