What is the different between minor bleed and a threatening bleed?

Minor Bleed

- Blood loss is less than 1000 mL

- Vital signs are stable

- No signs of hypovolemia or shock

Threatening Bleed

- Blood loss is more than 1000 mL

- Vital signs are unstable

- Signs of hypovolemia or shock

Signs and Symptoms of Hypovolemia

- Tachycardia

- Hypotension

- Oliguria

- Lethargy

- Confusion

- Loss of consciousness

Treatment for Minor Bleed

- Apply direct pressure to the bleeding wound

- Elevate the affected limb

- Apply a cold compress

- Bandage the wound

- Monitor vital signs

Treatment for Threatening Bleed

- Call 911

- Start IV fluids

- Transfuse blood

- Correct coagulation disorders

- Surgery to stop the bleeding
