What if a child swallowed small lamb bone?

If a child has swallowed a small lamb bone, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.

The bone could potentially cause the child to choke, or it could become lodged in the child's digestive tract and cause problems.

Symptoms of choking may include:

* Difficulty breathing

* Coughing

* Gagging

* Wheezing

* Inability to speak or cry

If the child is choking, try to dislodge the bone by performing the Heimlich maneuver.

For children under one year old, the Heimlich maneuver should be performed as follows:

1. Place the child face down on your forearm, with their head lower than their body.

2. Give five quick, forceful blows to the child's back, between the shoulder blades.

3. If the object does not dislodge, turn the child face up and give five quick, forceful thrusts to the child's chest, just below the nipples.

4. Continue alternating between back blows and chest thrusts until the object is dislodged, or the child begins to breathe.

For children over one year old, the Heimlich maneuver should be performed as follows:

1. Stand behind the child and wrap your arms around their waist.

2. Make a fist with one hand and place the thumb side against the child's abdomen, just below the rib cage.

3. Grasp your fist with your other hand and pull inward and upward, quickly and forcefully.

4. Continue performing the Heimlich maneuver until the object is dislodged, or the child begins to breathe.

If the child is not choking, but you are concerned that they may have swallowed a bone, it is important to seek medical attention.

The doctor may recommend an X-ray to determine the location of the bone, and may need to remove the bone surgically.
